A Story about a Boy in Perth, 2 July 2011

So this is the day. The departure day. I will go to Perth. Yey! This is going to be my first experience to go abroad by myself. Yep. All by myself. I mean, I travel alone all along the way to Perth. A little bit stupid but that will be a big experience for me.

Aku dapat penerbangan Garuda Indonesia GA 724 keberangkatan 06.40 WIB. Pesawat terbang transit via Denpasar, terus lanjut ke Perth.  I have to wake up so early, sekitar jam 3 pagi dan berangkat dari rumah jam 4, check-in jam 5 pagi. So be it, I traveled my way to Denpasar first, and then waited for about 25 minutes and then the flight continued to Perth and it took about 5 hours long. Well, I don’t know what will happen later. One of the scariest things in my opinion is to get into something that you have no idea with. I watched License to Wed and listened to some songs like Train, Mika, and Taylor Swiftby the way. It’s entertainment facility for the airplane. I’ll be so dead sitting for so many hours doing nothing in the air. Thank God.

Totally, I spent 6 hours journey from Indonesia to Australia. Luckily, my lecture told me to not bring any kind of food to Australia because it’s also thing that kinda restricted to bring in to Australia. I don’t know, mungkin bisa tapi ribet kali ya urusannya harus dicek segala soalnya.

Then what? I have to travel from the airport to hostel. So, two generous officers came up to me and asked me if I need some help. Well, I did. They told me to take the airport shuttle bus and it will take me straight to the hostel I want. I didn’t want to pick another option, because I don’t know what other options by the way, except taxi which is will cost me more.

While I was waiting for the bus, I met an Indonesian. Gara-garanya aku minta tolong buat ngambilin fotoku. Haha. Ngga punya malu, but I have to. Ternyata dia orang Indonesia, namanya Mba Pratiwi, kuliah S3 di Belgia. Well, it’s a little bit hard to differentiate people’s nationality here. The more surprising thing is, ternyata dia dateng ke Perth ini juga buat ikut acara World Planning School Congress 2011. What a coincidence. So we traveled together by the shuttle bus, had a little conversation and exchanged phone number and email. She stayed in Youth National Hostel, and I stayed in Globe Backpackers Hostel. It’s near by the way, we’re in the same street, Wellington St, and so it will be easy for us to go tomorrow. Great, I found my first partner in Perth then. Lucky.

Di satu sisi aku milih ini karena nyari experience, dapet temen baru pastinya, di sisi lain, it’s the cheapest room rates I could afford. Haha. Setelah urusan sama resepsionis selesai, aku ke kamar. My room number is Room 25. I opened the door, and surprised. Oh God, where am I? Ini kamar apa kapal pecah? I don’t know what to say. Yep, I’m the tenth bastard in room 25. Actually, when I entered the room, there’s only one person staying there. How could I know that other beds are occupied? Haha. I was surprised, but I knew that this is only the beginning of my exciting week. I hope so.

Lucky me, the person in my room that I mentioned before is very interactive. So, I found my next friend, his name is Egor (read: Igor). He is a Russian but he lives in Vancouver, Canada, and he came to Perth for vacation. He’s a backpacker by the way. So we had a conversation, ngobrolin asal daerah, mau ngapain, dan macem-macem, and then he asked me to come along, we took a walk around the hostel. It’s really fun. Jadi kami jalan-jalan di pedestrian mall. We didn’t buy anything. He only wanted to show me some sightseeing there. That’s nice.

So I went back to hostel at 7 pm after I bought a snack and one cup of instant noodle at convenient store. Damn. At least I have to spend 10 AUD to eat and drink properly here. God, I’m gonna be dead.

So here I am, at Perth. I’m writing this on my bed. My bags are scrambled besides me. I’m become one of the messy guy in room 25. Haha. Damn, I have to pay for the internet connection. I thought it will be free at first I came here. Suck.

We’ll see what will happen next. Goodnight.
